Day Momo (Des Moments) August 1st-15th
I left my job of 7 years in October. I traveled through South America for 7 months after that. I’ve been unemployed for the last 10 months. I’m living on a budget. A strict one.
It’s liberating. I know what I spend. I track everything. I never did this before traveling. I didn’t care. Now, I do. The inspiration was my friend, and travel buddy, Chris Cabezas. His influence finally rubbed off on me. We use the app MoneyWiz. Check out what Chris is up to on his blog here.
Know your budget. Know your lifestyle. When your budget covers your desired lifestyle, you’ve attained freedom. This is emphasized even more traveling. Traveling around the world can be a lot less expensive than living in the United States. It’s not for everybody, but it’s one example.
There’s one negative. At least I noticed it about myself.
Lack of abundance. I became overly frugal. I lost sight of the law of abundance. I was afraid to spend money. I wouldn’t treat myself to a nicer dinner or stay in a nicer hotel once in a while. I also lost sight of giving and charity. This was a big part of my life while making an income.
I’m not saying be reckless. I’m saying don’t hoard your money. I was overly insecure about squandering my money. This is fear based. This is scarcity based. This only leads to the attraction of continued loss and more scarcity.
Abundance is all about attracting into your life what you already have. Abundance is about receiving what you give. Give and spend your money freely, within reason. Then, know faithfully and whole-heartedly it will come back to you. Abundance on the inside, leads to abundance on the outside – whether it’s money, love, or relationships.
I started spending a little more freely. I started it giving to my charities again, like I did before traveling.
Whatever I feel is lacking in my life, I try to give. I’m not great at it. I try. I’m working on it.
Keep a budget. It’s liberating on the practical level.
At the same, don’t let a budget keep you. Don’t let it keep you from abundance.
The law of abundance is liberating on the internal and eternal levels. Those levels always manifest down to the practical level.
