I believe in a cosmic two-way street. The inward and outward flow of EVERYTHING.
Manifestations of all kinds flow through this street. Emotions and energy flow through it. Love, happiness, and money flow through it; despair and poverty as well.
We can’t receive what we don’t give to the two-way street. When you feel like something is lacking in your life, start giving that exact thing. Feel like your lacking help in your life? Start helping others. Lacking love in your life? Start showing love in small ways. You feel people not interested in you? Start being interested in others.
This is how the cosmic two-way street works. It may feel like it’s not working at first. The receiving might not come for months, or even years later, but this is how the two-way street works. It always flows back to those who have given to it. I’ve seen in happen in my life throughout the years.
Here’s a small sample of a two-way cosmic street story. It happened to me last Sunday in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam:
A man and his wife were sitting next to me at lunch. He could speak a little English so we shared a few words. They had a warm, friendly energy to them.
As they got up to leave, he handed me a small bracelet with a laminated message: Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
I thanked him for the thoughtful gift. They went on there way and I went on with my day.
Each week I try to one or two random acts of kindness. This is usually something simple, like buying someone a cup of coffee or a smoothie. The last few weeks I’ve been paying for the two meals a week for random people I see at a restaurant.
It was Sunday night, and I realized I had not done my random act of kindness for the week. So tonight was my night to do it. I picked out the exact location in my mind. I knew a street food restaurant with a few tables set up. This would be the perfect spot to treat two people with a free meal.
I walked about 10 minutes to get the location. I turned the corner and I could see the street food cart and tables set up in the distance. There was a construction worker on one table and a couple sitting together at another. The couple would be the lucky winners tonight.
As I got closer, I said to myself, “Can’t be.”
The couple sitting was the couple at lunch earlier in the day who gave me the bracelet.
“Coincidences of consciousness.” They pop up more and more as you immerse yourself into this cosmic two-way street of giving and receiving.
The odds are wild to think about. The neighborhood where we ate lunch was in a different neighborhood from where dinner was. Remember, I decided 10 minutes before I saw them I was going to go to this EXACT location to pay for someone’s meal. I passed about 4 or 5 other restaurants on the way.
Then, at the EXACT time I arrive, I see one couple sitting at the table I planned to pay for, and lo and behold, my new friends who gave to me earlier in the day, appear for me to give to them now.
We shared a few words as we all laughed about the coincidence. Then I paid without them knowing. I smiled on my walk home about the nice surprise they’ll get when they ask for the bill.
But this is just a small story.
It’s a metaphor for the bigger possibilities, the bigger meaning in life, which is available to you and I when we participate and give to the cosmic two-street.
Thank you for this excellent story. We don’t know how much we can make a difference by gestures such as these. You’re making a difference, JM!
