On Sept 1st, I moved to New York for 30 days. This move beamed me out of a suburban lifestyle in New Jersey. Before that I was backpacking through South America. Before that I was working in a 6 figure, remote sales job in Miami.
All of this has happened within the last 11 months. That’s a lot of change.
Then, I realized I haven’t seen the same face on the streets. The flow of people on the streets are always changing. It will never be the same exact flow of people from one moment to the next.
It made me think more.
Life is always in a state of flux. The words change and life really mean the same thing. The sooner we come to terms with this, the easier it is we can embrace change and navigate life.
Change equals life. Change in natural. It’s that simple. I’m trying to align myself with change, and not fight it. Fighting it is like fighting Mother Nature. It’s like trying to swim upstream against the flow of the river. It’s a battle I’m not going to win.
So, I can’t stop myself from changing. I’m going to read new books, and have different ideas and perspectives. External events will come up in my life I can’t control. This is the flowing river of my life. So why not flow with the river?
You and your significant other might break up. You might grow and flourish with your significant other. You have kids. You lose parents. You get older. You make new friends. You lose some. You reunite with others. It’s always changing.
I thought some more about accepting change.
It doesn’t mean be a flake, a lush, or a pushover. Go after and create the life you want. Dream big dreams and start chasing them.
At the same time, have a higher awareness that life is ultimately impermanent. Life is changing for all of us. It will change on small and large scales. Everyday.
Knowing this can gives me a sense of peace as I move through my inward and outward journey.
The sooner you stop trying to swim upstream, you start flowing with the river. When you’re flowing with the river, you no longer struggle.
You become still. You flow with life.
